Core Select 5500 ‘’Ole Bull ‘’ GuarneriCore Select 5500 ‘’Ole Bull ‘’ Guarneri

Core Select 5500 ‘’Ole Bull ‘’ Guarneri

The 1744 “Ole Bull” was made in Guarneri’s final year, and perhaps his last creation. The refined and stately tonal qualities are a surprising contrast to the wild and carefree workmanship, a juxtaposition for which Guarneri is beloved. The original instrument was played famously by the 19th century Norwegian violinist Ole Bull, a virtuoso across Europe and contemporary of Paganini, Schumann, and Liszt.
This Core Select model is inspired by the great artistry of both Guarneri and Bull, and with lightning-quick response helps the modern player tackle the most challenging and diverse repertoire. The tonal quality is in the dark to medium range with exceptional versatility. Projects with great clarity while retaining a warm quality under the player’s ear. Naturally air-dried for at least 50 years, the Italian spruce and Bosnian maple are crafted with the utmost care in the archings to bring to life an exuberant and pliable voice. This award winning master maker has influences from American and Italian makers. The instrument has been set up using fine boxwood fittings with heart shape pegs, a beautifully cut and fitted Aubert DeLuxe bridge, and Pirastro Obligato strings.

Ernst Heinrich Roth 1927 Stradivarius Model 130-RErnst Heinrich Roth 1927 Stradivarius Model 130-R

Ernst Heinrich Roth 1927 Stradivarius Model 130-R

The town of Markneukirchen in Saxony has been famous for violin making since the mid-1600s when the first violin making guild was formed. By the late 1800s more than a quarter of a million string instruments a year were being shipped all over the world. After WW1, production in Markneukirchen dropped significantly, but the companies that remained, started to concentrate on the making of higher quality instruments. At the beginning of the 1920s Ernst Heinrich Roth I (1877-1948) took over the operation of the Roth family firm and began to produce violins of exceptional quality. These fine violins were so popular in America that Ernst Heinrich sent his son Ernst Heinrich II (1890-1961) to represent the firm. Today, Ernst Heinrich Roth Violins from the 1920s are in great demand because of their exceptional quality and although originally the 1920s Roth Violins were made in 13 different quality grades, there is little difference in terms of quality. This fine example is in good condition and has been meticulously set up and adjusted in our shop for maximum playability and performance. Sold with an Instrument Confirmation Certificate from Roth Violins.

“Hellier” Stradivari 1679“Hellier” Stradivari 1679

“Hellier” Stradivari 1679

During his career, Stradivari is thought to have made about 1100 instruments with only about a half dozen of them embellished with intricate patterns of inlay and wood. Of the decorated instruments that exist today, the “Hellier” is the best preserved, named after Samuel Hellier, High Sheriff of Staffordshire 1742, and forms part of the Smithsonian collection. Gliga Vasile Violins are the finest offerings from the Gliga workshop in Reghin Romania. The Carpathian spruce and well flamed Carpathian maple are finished in an oil varnish which combined with the special White Bone and Ebony inlaid Purfling Fittings makes for a strikingly beautiful violin with a velvet tone.

Nicolas Bertholini Fecit 1810Nicolas Bertholini Fecit 1810

Nicolas Bertholini Fecit 1810

Nicolas Bertholini is a trade name associated with violins crafted during the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Mirecourt, France—a renowned center for violin making. These instruments were produced in prominent workshops, including Laberte-Magnie and Laberte-Humbert Frères, which were celebrated for their high-quality craftsmanship. Over time, Nicolas Bertholini violins have earned a reputation for their musicality and aesthetic appeal, making them sought-after instruments for advancing players. Violins bearing the Nicolas Bertholini label are recognized for their fine materials, attention to detail, and elegant varnish, often in shades of red or golden-brown. Despite some labels indicating dates such as 1810, these instruments were actually made between 1880 and 1930. They were designed to cater to the needs of intermediate and advanced musicians, offering a rich, balanced tone and good projection. This example is in excellent condition with no prior restorations and has been meticulously setup and adjusted in our shop.
